A beautiful celebration of your new addition

Humanist Naming Ceremonies

Humanist naming ceremonies are a meaningful, joyful, fun and beautiful celebration of your new baby or child that will be enjoyed by family and friends of all ages and beliefs.

A humanist naming ceremony sets in stone this special new chapter in your family’s unique story in a way that’s authentic to you, and will be remembered long into the future.

You and your little one will be at the heart of the ceremony. As your celebrant, I’ll take the time to get to know you as a family to make sure your ceremony is tailored just for you.

I also offer bilingual naming ceremonies in French and Welsh

Building Blocks of Your Humanist Naming Ceremony

  • We’ll talk all about your little one – their personality, the milestones they’ve reached so far and your favourite things to do as a family

  • You can make promises to your child, a blueprint for the wonderful life you’ll share together

  • Celebrating your child’s ‘village’ – you can choose guideparents or godparents who’ll always look out for them

  • We’ll tell the story behind your baby’s name and have a triumphant naming with all your guests

  • Your choice of readings and/or music

  • Rounding off the ceremony with bubbles, a certificate or any way you like…and ending with a great big cheer for your little one!

Remember:

  • You can have your baby’s naming ceremony anywhere you’d like – from your back garden at home, to a hotel or pub function room or even your favourite park.

  • There’s no upper age limit for a humanist naming ceremony and you’re more than welcome to name any older children at the same time at no extra cost. Why not combine a naming ceremony with a first birthday party?

Where do you lead humanist naming ceremonies?

  • I'm based in South London, and I lead naming ceremonies across London, Kent, East and West Sussex, Surrey, Wales and beyond - though I'm always happy to explore new places too!

When's the best age to hold a naming ceremony for my child?

The best time is whenever you as a family are ready! As a parent to a young child myself, I know the juggle (and sleep depravation!) is very real in the first few months, so I'm completely flexible around you and your needs as a family. I've held ceremonies for babies who are just a few weeks old right up to toddlers and older children.

How much does a naming ceremony with you cost?

My standard naming ceremony fee is £300.

This includes:

  • All planning meetings

  • Your bespoke naming ceremony script

  • Leading the ceremony on the day itself

  • A keepsake copy of your script to treasure long after your child has grown up

  • Travel within the M25 (travel and/or accommodation expenses will apply to ceremonies outside this area)

How will you work with me to create the naming ceremony?

1. To book your introductory call, please get in touch via my contact page

2. Book me for your chosen date (yay!). I'll ask for a 50% deposit to save your date.

3. We'll have a longer chat to learn all about your family to create your ceremony together.

4. I'll write your naming ceremony script with all the lovely elements that make you tick as a family.

5. On the day of the naming ceremony, I'll arrive 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony to ensure everyone's happy and comfortable with their roles.

6. Enjoy your ceremony!

“Mair conducted the most beautiful humanist naming ceremony for our children. She really listened to our story and wrote a very heartfelt and moving ceremony. It was lighthearted yet still emotional. She is a delight to work with."
